NEW CUSTOMS BILL INCLUDES IP PROVISIONS

On March 22, U.S. Senate Finance Committee Chairman MAX BAUCUS (D-MT) introduced the Trade Facilitation and Trade Enforcement Reauthorization Act, S. 662.  This lengthy customs reauthorization bill includes IP-related provisions.  Among other things, the bill would create a National Intellectual Property Rights Coordination Center to coordinate Federal strategies to prevent IPR violations.  It would also require the Customs and Border Protection agency to share unredacted images of suspected infringing merchandise to the rights holder.  IPO committees will study the bill.
