USPTO Seeks Comment on Riyadh Design Law Treaty

USPTO SEEKS COMMENT ON RIYADH DESIGN LAW TREATY

The USPTO is requesting public input on the World Intellectual Property Organization’s Riyadh Design Law Treaty (RDLT), adopted by WIPO member states in November 2024. The treaty is intended to streamline global procedures for protecting industrial designs and to ease the process for designers seeking international design rights.

Request for Comments was published in the Federal Register on Friday. The USPTO is seeking feedback on whether the United States should join the treaty, its consistency with current U.S. patent law, and any anticipated impacts of implementation. Written comments are due by June 11, 2026. IPO’s Industrial Designs Committee will take the lead on the preparation of potential IPO comments. If you are interested in helping with this project, please contact Committee Secretary JEREMY KRIEGEL at jkriegel@marshallip.com.
