IPO SUBMITS COMMENTS ON PROPOSED AMENDMENTS TO INDIA DESIGNS ACT
Last week IPO President JOHN CHEEK (Tenneco LLC) submitted comments on behalf of IPO to the India Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT) on its “Concept Note: Proposed Amendment to the Designs Act, 2000.” IPO’s submission notes it “commends the DPIIT for its forward-looking initiative to modernize the Designs Act, 2000” and “strongly supports the Concept Note’s objectives to align Indian design law with international best practices, including certain practices found in the Hague Agreement and the Riyadh Design Law Treaty (DLT).” The comments also propose revisions to areas of design protection contemplated by the Concept Note to “ensure the amendments achieve their intended goals of robustness and clarity.”
