COPYRIGHT OFFICE ANNOUNCES HEARINGS ON PROPOSED DMCA EXEMPTIONS

On Friday, the Copyright Office issued a Federal Register notice announcing public hearings on 27 proposed exemptions to the prohibition against circumvention of technological measures that control access to copyrighted works under the Digital Millennium Copyright Act. The hearings are scheduled for May 19-21 at the UCLA School of Law in Los Angeles, CA, and May 26-29 at the Library of Congress in Washington, DC. Requests to testify must be received by April 20.

IPO previously submitted written comments opposing the proposed exemptions in classes 25 (software for security research), 26 (firmware or software associated with 3-D printers), and 27 (software for networked medical devices).
