MONTHLY ROUNDUP FOR JUNE 2026

Welcome back to the Monthly Roundup, a note published on the last business day of each month. Each installment shares the month’s most-read story, highlights from IPO you might have missed, and teasers about things to come. We welcome your feedback!

Most-Read This Month

The most-clicked story in June was IPO’s Top 300 Organizations Granted U.S. Patents in 2025, released June 15 in collaboration with Harrity Analytics. Now in its 43rd consecutive year, the list ranks organizations by the number of U.S. utility patents granted to them, based on USPTO data. Samsung Electronics again led the list, and the USPTO granted 325,014 utility patents in 2025, about the same as 2024.

In Case You Missed It

  • IPO submitted comments to CNIPA on its Draft Guidelines for the Administrative Adjudication and Mediation of Patent Disputes, supporting the effort to unify standards for handling patent dispute cases and offering suggestions on four sections of the draft.
  • IPO also submitted comments to the USPTO strongly supporting U.S. accession to the WIPO Riyadh Design Law Treaty, which it described as consistent with U.S. law and practice and an opportunity for the U.S. to continue its leadership in advancing IP-protection practices globally.
  • IPO had an active month in Asia, joining the IP5 Heads of Office with IP5 Industry meeting in Tokyo and holding its annual IP Innovation Dialogue meeting with the Japan Patent Office.

Just For Fun

This month’s most-read story doubles as a bit of a membership roll call: of the ten organizations granted the most U.S. patents in 2025, four are IPO members; of the top 100, roughly a third are IPO members, accounting for around 40,000 patents.
