USPTO ADDS AI FEATURES TO TRADEMARK SEARCH AND APPLICATION TOOLS
Last week the USPTO introduced several artificial intelligence enhancements to streamline trademark searching and application preparation. A new beta feature in the USPTO’s trademark search system allows users to upload an image to identify similar marks with related design elements. Beginning April 23, Trademark Center will include a new mark description and color claim generator to help applicants prepare application descriptions and color claims.
The announcement also highlights the Trademark Classification Agentic Codification Tool (Class ACT), an AI system that automatically assigns international classes to applications and generates design search codes and pseudo marks that make records searchable. Historically these classification and coding steps could take months to complete, but the agency says the AI tool can perform them almost immediately while still subject to human review.
LAST CALL FOR PROPOSALS: IPO DAILY NEWS SEEKS MEMBER CONTRIBUTIONS FOR RECURRING SERIES AND COLUMNS
IPO invites members to submit proposals for recurring columns, series, or other regular content to be published in the Daily News beginning later this year. This initiative is intended to expand opportunities for members to share insights and perspectives on intellectual property law, policy, and practice, and to further enhance the value of the publication to the IPO community.
Proposed topics might include IP policy issues, district court or regional circuit court opinions, international IP developments, practice trends, or other matters of interest to IPO members. Proposed formats may include recurring columns, periodic analysis, interview series, explainer pieces, or other structured content. Proposals should include a brief description of the proposed topic and scope and anticipated frequency (e.g., weekly, monthly, quarterly).
For reference, Daily News items are generally at least 100 and no more than 250 words. Please also include a short writing sample representative of the proposed content.
Contributors may participate individually or on behalf of an IPO committee. Members interested in submitting a proposal should contact Samantha Grover by Friday, April 10. Thanks to those who have submitted proposals already.
