Recent studies show that by harvesting the creative talents of more Americans more inclusively, we could quadruple the number of innovators and increase the overall level of U.S. Gross Domestic Product (GDP) per capita by up to 4.4%. This may not sound like a lot, but it amounts to about $1 trillion in GDP. Another study found companies with at least one woman on the founding team outperformed all-male founded companies by 63%. In addition, research which analyzed publicly available venture-backed deals from seed to Series D over the past five years suggests venture capitalists overlook companies led by women and people of color. So why aren’t more women and people of color getting funded?
