CHARLES SCHUMER (D-New York) introduced <a href=\"http:\/\/ipo.informz.net\/z\/cjUucD9taT0yMzI2NzMzJnA9MSZ1PTc4ODY1OTg5MyZsaT0xMTg4Mjk0MQ\/index.html\" target=\"_blank\">S. 866<\/a>, a 1-page bill \u201cto make improvements in the transitional program for covered business method patents and for other purposes.\u201d \u00a0The bill amends section 18 of the AIA, which established the \u201cTransitional Program for Covered Business Method Patents.\u201d \u00a0Schumer\u2019s bill introduced yesterday broadens the definition of \u201ccovered business method patent\u201d by deleting the limitation to \u201ca financial product.\u201d \u00a0It also eliminates the 8-year sunset provision from AIA section 18. \u00a0Yesterday\u2019s bill apparently follows up on Schumer\u2019s announcement last week that he would introduce a bill to combat suits by \u201ctrolls,\u201d but the bill is not restricted to patents owned by any particular type of owner. \u00a0IPO\u2019s committees will study the bill.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>On Monday Sen.
