{"id":373,"date":"2013-02-22T15:55:22","date_gmt":"2013-02-22T15:55:22","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/ipo.org\/?p=373"},"modified":"2013-03-15T19:50:10","modified_gmt":"2013-03-15T19:50:10","slug":"theft-of-trade-secrets-clarification-act-signed-by-president","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/ipo.org\/index.php\/theft-of-trade-secrets-clarification-act-signed-by-president\/","title":{"rendered":"\u201cTheft of Trade Secrets Clarification Act\u201d signed by President"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>On December 28, President OBAMA signed into law <a href=\"#\">S. 3642<\/a>, Public Law 112-___, the &#8220;Theft of Trade Secrets Clarification Act of 2012.&#8221; The new law amends Section 1832(a) of Title 18 (the Economic Espionage Act of 1996) to clarify that it applies to &#8220;a product or service used in or intended for use in&#8221; interstate or foreign commerce. The new law responds to the Second Circuit decision in U.S. v. Aleynikov, in which the court overturned a jury verdict finding that the defendant violated the Economic Espionage Act for stealing source code from his employer.
